       3:05 P.M.
As David began to head home he heard a voice calling for him. "You just gonna leave me here all alone?" he said. It was Peter Bynes. David and Peter had been friends since second grade and had always walked home together. Today David had totally forgoten. "Well now that you caught up to me," replied David " I may as well take ya home."
As they began to walk home they talked about what they usaully talked about, school, homework, girls, anything to get David's mind off of tonight. "You comin' over tonight?" asked Peter. "No I can't. Gotta work." David answered. Since he was 14 David had house-sat for Barry Larson. Barry was a head of security at the towns museum and on certain occasions had to work the night shift. David had offered to house sit for $10 a night as long as he didn't have school the next day.
When they got to Peter's house he reminded David that if he needed anything he should just call and Peter would rush over as soon as he could. Mr. Larson lived way out in the country about 25 miles from any town. His house was old and rotting. It had formerly been destroyed during the civil war and had been rebuild in 1905. The house had been in the Larson family for centuries and was desperatly in need of some revision. Peter knew David was afraid of this house. Three years ago Samuel Larson, Barry's Great Grandfather, had killed to intruders and then had died himself of a stroke. The boys at school liked to tease David by saying tha their ghosts had never left the house and that it was haunted. When David had first revealed to peter that he didn't like the house, he asked if David was scared of the dark. David answered," I'm not scared of the dark. Just what's in it."
    5:00 P.M.

When David was finished with supper his mom packed a snack for him and drove him down to Mr. Larsons. After his mom had left he went inside and was greeted by Mr. Larsons dog, Samson. Samson was a big huskie whit dark grey fur, grey eyes, and yellow theeth. His breath always smelled a little like rotten meat to David but no matter how many times he had tried he just couldn't get Samson's teeth cleaned. Samson always greeted David different every time he came by. Sometimes he would knock David over and sit on his chest licking him untill Mr. Larson called him off. Other times he would simply come up to David and sniff and/or lick him. Today though was something Samson had never done before, he ignored him. "That's weird," mumbled Mr. Larson "normally Samson is overjoyed at seeing you."

His house was old and rotting.  I love that. It’s not just old or just rotting its both. the right amount of creepy.

I'm not scared of the dark. Just what's in it." Best line ever!

also love that the story is set in time ( 5:00 P.M.) so we can see right when things get creepy.
